I finally have my own site
After thinking about it for quite a while, I've decided to create my own website.
It's been a while now since I started contributing more actively to the data community, more specifically the Microsoft Fabric community. It all started with a LinkedIn post about my Fabric journey so far. Soon after, I got the chance to share my thoughts on data product architecture at a user group meeting. Since then I've been moderating the Microsoft Fabric discord, co-founded Fabric Forge, presented at Microsoft Reactor sessions, and started a YouTube channel.
With all that's going on, I wanted to have one hub to keep track of everything and build a portfolio of my community involvement. I also want to do more long-form writing. I do enjoy sharing short, straight to the point content on LinkedIn, but sometimes I feel like a topic deserves more than three paragraphs which doesn't really fly with the algorithm.
In short, here's what the site will be about:
A community contribution portfolio
Being part of the Microsoft Fabric community has been an amazing experience. There are so many great ways to get involved - which is great as everyone can pick the ones that suit them the best. Personally, I've been involved in quite many different ways, and that has given me a unique perspective on how each side of the community works.
I also want to share that perspective and hopefully inspire others to get involved as well. I've created the community page for that purpose. It showcases how I've been contributing, and hopefully helps someone find their own way to join the community or even start sharing too.
A couple weeks back, I had the pleasure of talking about this topic on a Microsoft Reactor session with two amazing community voices. Watching the session is a great place to get started with the community. You can find the recording here: ▶ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l92eWrcqrTY
Blog on topics I find interesting
I've always enjoyed writing, and this platform allows me to do just that. There are many great options to choose from when starting a blog, and all of them have their strongpoints.
A lot of platforms exist for the sole purpose of writing blog posts. That's the fastest and simplest way to get started. The downside is the limited customization options. You do have a space for your blog posts, but nothing else. Also, you're tied to the service provider.
Creating my own site provides the flexibility to make it look like me, and include everything I want to. That comes with an added bonus of being able to post about anything I feel like posting. Don't worry - I won't be posting what I had for lunch. The posts will mostly focus around Microsoft Fabric, but also include topics like certifications, community events, and the data field in general.
Thank you for stopping by
That's it, that's the plan. I really appreciate you reading this far, it really means a lot. I'd be really happy to get any feedback or topic suggestions for the future posts. If it wasn't evident already, the posts are 100% human, 0% AI.
